We are almost approaching a year of being in lockdown. While we seem to be stuck in a loop of being at home and venturing out for only the necessities, many of us have turned our attention to our homes with online spending on DIY seeing a surge in the last year. As we venture into spring, we take a look at some of the projects that can be completed at this time of year from potting your hanging baskets and veggies to organising that conservatory roof replacement.
New uPVC Guttering
At this time of year, we see lots of rain – a prime time for noticing leaks in the guttering. The trouble is, being on the outside of the house and over our heads, it is all too easy to ignore these leaks. ‘Out of sight out of mind’, as they say. If you have white guttering, the appearance of mould, algae, moss and the general appearance may be prompting you to consider either getting them cleaned or replaced. Replacing guttering, fascias and soffits is something that we can help with whether its a replacement to match what what you already have or a new colour or style.
Conservatory Roof Replacement
We get so many enquiries about conservatory flat roofs and have written many articles on why its a good idea to replace your current conservatory roof for a thermally insulated solution. With many of us now working from home, the conservatory has become an integral room that can fulfil a multitude of requirements:
- Home schooling
- Working from home
- Somewhere to escape
- An extra room to make more of the space
- A home gym
If your conservatory is too hot in summer and too cold in winter, it’s a good idea to look at a solution that will allow you to use the space all year round. If you are considering a conservatory roof replacement, get in touch and see how we can help.
Garage Roof Replacement
Has the garage become a junk storage room over the winter? For us, not wanting to venture out, or being unable to, has meant that everything has become piled up ready to take to the tip. Honestly, if we just spent a day in the garage filling up the boot, we’d be able to turn the garage into a home gym at least. Why not pop some of the things you’ve got stored out there on to local selling sites and try and make some extra cash while you are at it? Once you have, you can look at making it a room that can be used year round for something other than junk storage.
Improving the Exterior
Potting your hanging baskets, giving everything a good clean, trimming the hedges… these are all things you can start to consider now. Making everything look nice will make you feel better and keep you occupied on these long lockdown days. The days are getting longer, the first signs of spring are starting to emerge and the sun is even peeping through.
Starting a Vegetable Patch
OK, so strictly speaking its not a home improvement, but it will certainly give you something to do in the garden. Last year, lockdown arrived at the end of march meaning that we had already lost the prime planting season. Consider what you can start planting now ready to plant out in your vegetable patch when the frosts have disappeared.
While we can’t help you with your vegetable patch, we can help you make more use of the space in your home. Simply give us a call on 01934 824005 to discuss your conservatory roof replacement or to look at converting that garage.
