The sun has made a very welcome appearance and as we bask in the beautiful warmth of the spring sun we start to notice all the work that needs to be done to get our homes ready for summer. You are probably looking around and starting to make a mental list of all the things that need doing but here’s our quick and handy checklist to help you out.

Freshen up the garden

After the dark, wet and dreary days of winter, we can finally uncover the garden furniture, get out the lawnmower and start weeding the garden. Prepare those hanging baskets, weed those flower beds, cut the grass and dig over the borders. It is time to give your garden a spring makeover and prepare for a summer of BBQs.

Get out the power washer

After the winter months, things can start to look a little grey. It may be that the decking is covered in algae or the patio slabs are looking grey. Get out the power washer and give everything a good spring clean.

Clean the uPVC gutters and fascias

While you are cleaning out the gutters and fascias, just give them a quick once over to make sure they aren’t cracked or worn. Leaking gutters can cause damage to the exterior of your property and should be fixed sooner rather than later.

Inspect the garage and conservatory roof

If you have a garage or conservatory with a flat roof, have a good look to see if there are any signs of damage. If you have a felt roof, it could be showing signs of wear and once the cracks appear, it is only a matter of time before you find water finding its way inside. Don’t wait for the rain to find out if you have a leak.

Paint the gates and fences

There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to make everything look like new. Give your fences, gates, gazebos, trellises and decking a fresh coat of paint and protect them from the elements while making them the envy of your neighbours.

Prune the trees, hedges and bushes

Spring is the perfect time to prune the trees, hedges and bushes in your garden ready for them to start shooting again. Also, plant any seeds or plants that you want to see make an appearance in the summer.

Plan your first BBQ.

Now that the garden is looking glorious, it is time to enjoy it. Start planning your first BBQ of the year and enjoy the sunshine.
