Do you have a hot conservatory and live in Weston, North Somerset, Bristol, Bath or Somerset? Then read on to discover how we can help you.

During the summer months, and even on hot spring or autumn days, the temperature inside a hot conservatory can be unbearable. When the temperatures rise to their hottest, while we think it’s warm across the house generally, in the conservatory it is no joke. It becomes somewhat of a green house with its glass windows and Perspex roof. By 9am it’s already too hot to use. That’s because traditionally, these conservatories were used as indoor gardens, a place to grow more tropical plants. The modern conservatory however, is so much more and now is treated as a living space in the house. Often, a conservatory is installed to create a space for dining, relaxing, entertaining or as a hobby room. That’s all well and good in theory but when it’s too hot to use it becomes an expensive unused space.

A Conservatory Fit for Purpose

With many people working from home since the pandemic and looking to maximise space, a conservatory can serve as an office or it can be a place to relax and unwind offering a retreat from the rest of the house. If you have kids at home, it makes for great additional play space or somewhere to study. Of course, it’s not really fit for purpose if it’s absolutely roasting in there for most of the day. Unfortunately, then it can become a junk room or somewhere that just sits there empty for half of the year or until it becomes unbearably cold in the depths of winter.

Solution to Make the Conservatory Comfortable

One thing you can do to cool down the conservatory and make it a room that can be used all year round, however hot it is, is to replace the roof! Take away the glass or Perspex roof and replace with a flat, thermally insulated solution that can offer some respite from the heat and turn your hot conservatory into a much more usable space. It’s not just about making it a more usable space either – it’s also energy efficient. No longer will you have huge heating bills as you try and heat the space in winter and it will be temperate all year round – much better for the environment too.

Install a Flat Roof on Your Hot Conservatory

Worried about losing light? This is a common concern however, it’s easily addressed. By installing flat roof lights, you can achieve the same sort of light that you do with your current conservatory.

By installing a flat roof and then adding roof lights, you don’t lose any of the light but you do lose that feeling akin to that of getting into a car that’s been parked in the sun all day. You will also see your furniture and interior decor last longer as the fade from the sun will be reduced.

As you can see from the pictures below, you can choose to have more than one roof light to really maximise the daylight that your conservatory receives. It’s also aesthetically pleasing – a conservatory with an EPDM flat roof looks much nicer than the old perspex style pitched roofs that need regular cleaning to stay looking nice.

The good news is, with an EPDM conservatory flat roof replacement, you can rest assured that the roof will last a long time into the future.
